Minhee's Motherhood
When Minhee reached out about shooting creative family photos and was up for exploring with some more unusual elements, I was in. Our time in the studio together was so fun and unusual.
When I do a motherhood session, I focus on mom and let the kids – in this case, her sweet boy Liam – run wild. Liam is three years old, so going into the shoot I knew that something to entertain him would be …helpful. If you’re a mom of a toddler, you know what I mean.
Unexpected Elements In These Creative Family Photos
It was with that in mind that I went about choosing elements for these creative family photos. I wanted to keep it clean and simple, so I suggested the studio route, but if you’re familiar with my work you know I love bringing in elements that don’t belong. So we brought in some dirt (a toddler’s dream), a toy truck, an old carousel horse, and of course florals. These were done by the amazing Stephanie at Flower Disco.
We wanted these creative family photos to be a celebration of this time in their lives, but even more than that, a celebration of who they are. When I do a motherhood shoot, I always want to celebrate the mom’s unique personality, and show motherhood as just one beautiful expression of that – not the be all and end all. I encouraged Minhee to choose outfits she felt fully herself in: not typical ‘momwear’ or everyday fare. The looks she came up with blew me away.
If you’re considering a motherhood shoot or some family portraits, but you want to do it with a twist, I’d love to brainstorm with you. Get in touch, and in the meantime, take a look at this floral family photo session for more inspiration.
