Moody Manorbier Castle Wedding in Wales

Emily and Jay’s moody European wedding at Manorbier Castle was like a little escape from reality. The groom’s family is originally from Wales, and the two of them love the history of the nation. When they got engaged, they knew that a castle wedding was an absolute must.

Manorbier Castle: One-of-a-kind

Manorbier Castle was the perfect spot. This ancient Norman building is over 900 years old – and you can feel the history seeping out of the stones. It’s in a picture-perfect little Welsh town and it’s only a few hundred feet away from the beach. One of the fabulous things about a Manorbier Castle wedding is that you get the whole castle to yourself, from the chapel to the courtyard down to the beautifully landscaped grounds. It gives you the privacy that feels so intimate, and that was perfect for Emily and Jay, who feel so quiet and calm – but are so passionate at the same time.

Wild Florals and Rocky Coastline

I loved how Emily and Jay leaned into florals. The ancient castle doesn’t have any original furnishings left, so the spaces are left like blank canvases, and the amazing florist, Forbesfield, did a wonderful job creating a wild, overgrown look. It felt fitting: the wildness was a reference to the ruins surrounding us, but also a joyful celebration of new life.

After their vows in the Manorbier Castle chapel, I stole Emily and Jay away for some photos down on the dramatic rocks of the coast. Eventually, Emily swapped out her veil for a flower crown and everyone celebrated at Penally Abbey restaurant. It turned out to be a perfect evening.
