Intimate Tattoo And Reception After The Wedding In Denver, Colorado
Deanna and Sam wanted unique. Not just to be unique but to be their kind of unique. I like that in a couple, and that’s what I want to bring out of them for their photos. This wasn’t hard with Deanna and Sam. They knew what they were looking for and knew I could help them get it. They were looking for me to take some photos after the wedding.
We took them in three spots: a hotel, Sam’s tattoo shop, and their reception. First, the hotel after the wedding.
The Hotel After The Wedding
By the time we started shooting, Deanna and Sam were already privately married. They hired me to take photos in this intimate hotel setting after the wedding. We did a lot of those shots in black and white. It felt right for the moodiness of it, although Deanna and Sam were smiling a lot, but I couldn’t blame them. They just couldn’t help themselves, and it developed a nice contrast between the colors’ mood and theirs. I liked it.
Sam’s Tattoo Shop
The next stop was Sam’s tattoo shop. They both love tattoos. They’ve both gotten a lot of tattoos together too, so, before the reception, they went to the shop to give each other one more.
That’s cool to me for a few reasons. Rings symbolize commitment, but tattoos symbolize expression. You can’t have tattoos without blood, without pain. You can’t have them without art. They are permanent and become a part of who you are. They are a marriage between your body and your art. Seeing Deanna and Sam honor that, take it to a new, unpretentious level, made me feel honored too.
They took good care of each other and let the moments stretch out as they spent time preparing and then tattooing. It’s difficult to capture something quite so tender
It was a lot of fun being there. If you look, you can even see me in a photo. Caught myself in the mirror, ha.
When they were done, we moved on to their reception.
Their Reception
Deanna and Sam met in a bar. They also held their reception after the wedding in a bar. It was called Fort Greene Bar. It was the kind of bar that doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not, just like Deanna and Sam. It’s a little rough, a little weird, but there’s love in those walls, in the pink and green tables outside.
The people who go there are just like the people who are friends with Deanna and Sam: carefully curated. They’re the ones who won’t go away.
I spent time with Deanna and Sam outside the front of the bar. We took shots by the door, sitting on the sidewalk, and Deanna walking past Sam. It had the feel of an ending to a movie, a tipping point for the plot.
I wonder where it’ll go next.
Me And You
I don’t do unique just for the sake of uniqueness. I do it for the realness of it. I do it to help you find you, just like Deanna and Sam after the wedding.
Sometimes I don’t have to work very hard for that, but I love it when I have to. I want you comfortable enough to feel exposed. Then I can really get to work.
Let me know what you need.
