Aja & Colin's Boulder Elopement At Spruce Pool

I love working with intentional people. If you’ve seen my photography, you know that’s me, and that’s what I do. So, getting to work with others who are the same is fulfilling. That’s the way it was for Aja and Colin’s Boulder elopement at Spruce Pool. Now, let’s get into it.

The Setup

Aja is getting her Master’s in Biology, but she also loves fashion. When you see the photos, you’ll be able to tell. Colin is the same way. He has such great style. Like I said earlier, they are both intentional people, and they’re intentional with everyone they meet too.

Being an intentional person, Aja was really drawn to the sessions I’ve done where I shoot in a unique setting. When she inquired about her intimate Boulder elopement, she said she was open to any idea I had.

The good thing for her was that I had my eye on this pool in my neighborhood that has been closed for over a year now. When I suggested it to her, she loved it!

That wasn’t the end of getting this Boulder elopement session set up though. I had to search high and low to find someone who I could get permission to shoot there. I was happy to do it though. No shoot worth doing is easy. I finally did find someone, and it was magical. Just thinking about it now gets me excited!

Then Aja hired my favorite gal, Steph with Flower Disco, to do the florals. We work well together and made quite the magic for Aja and Colin.

With all that done, we were ready to go for this Boulder elopement shoot.

The Boulder Elopement Photos At Spruce Pool

One of my favorite aspects of this Boulder elopement shoot was how completely Aja and Colin trusted me. Because of that, we were able to go on a little pool adventure. And we made use of everything: the inside of the pool, the outside, the pool chairs, all of it.

And because of the pool, the whole shoot had this fun out-of-school summer vibe to it. And because the pool was abandoned, there was an extra layer of getting up to no good too. Aja and Colin pulled it all off well.

One set of photos that stand out to me are the ones of Aja and Colin sitting on the long pool chair in the pool. Most of the chair is sitting in some dirty, leaf-ridden water. It takes a certain sort of person to sit on a pool chair in dirty water and look tough, but Aja and Colin did it with style.

Another standout was Aja sitting on a stack of pool chairs, holding part of Steph’s floral arrangement while the other part stayed connected to the metal bars that help people get in and out of the pool.

Some nearby trees cast half the shot in shadow, and the other half stayed in the light. We positioned Aja just at the edge of the two, and it was a neat contrast.

There are lots more photos I like too. I like all of them really, but Colin wearing the veil and both Aja and him lounging by those metal bars are some other standouts.

Final Thoughts

Hey, I’m not one to usually do a photo session in the same place. But maybe you’re looking for your own intentional session. I’m always down for those.

Together we can come up with your own unique Boulder elopement photos or some photos elsewhere. Just reach out. We’ll make it happen.
