Anna + Mike's Intimate Engagement Photos At Home
Photo sessions are at their best when the couple is comfortable. I want them to feel comfortable anyway, but the comfort also elevates the photos too. For Anna and Mike, this meant taking their engagement photos at home. I was happy to do it.
Leading Up To The Engagement Session
Like many of the other couples I’ve worked with, Anna and Mike found me through Instagram. Mike was a ski instructor, and they met while skiing. They also both love the outdoors. For their engagement session, they wanted to incorporate the outdoors, but they didn’t want the typical mountain views. I was immediately into that since I’m not interested in the typical either.
While talking about it, I suggested we shoot their engagement photos at home because they were obviously comfy there. This was important to me because they were nervous about being in front of the camera, and I wanted them to feel comfortable creating within the space we were using.
They said their house was in the middle of being renovated and painted. I assured them it was perfect.
And it truly was.
Shooting Their Engagement Photos At Home
Homes are some of the most powerful and authentic expressions of people. We spend so much of our lives there, wherever those homes are. My grandparents’ home shows that, and I love seeing who they were in it even now. So, getting to see Anna and Mike represented in their home was special too.
Shooting their engagement photos at home was also the perfect reflection of that time in their lives. They were transitioning into a new life together, and so was their home. There was a kind of moodiness to everything with the overcast skies and the dark paint covering the front of their home. We leaned into that, bringing it to the forefront.
We also leaned into the renovations being done to their home too. We took some shots showing an unfinished side of their house except for a door and some siding. There was even plastic still covering a window.
But we also leaned into the playful side of stepping into a new life and fixing up a home together. We took pictures of them on a swing together, smiling and just being with one another. They were like kids, just having some fun.
All these parts made up their engagement photos at home, and all of them showed a different side of who they were and where they were at that time. This is one of many reasons why I love taking photos.
Capture Yourself With Me Too
All good photoshoots have to come to an end eventually, no matter how good they are. Shooting Anna and Mike’s engagement photos at home was a privilege I won’t ever take for granted. Being there with them in such a meaningful space meant a lot to me, and I loved getting to see a little bit of who they were and capturing that for them.
If you’d like me to do the same for you, let me know. Together, we’ll make it happen.
