A couple’s home is a meaningful part of their lives. For couples like Kait and JJ, this is even more true. It’s an expression of who they are and what’s important to them. It’s people like them who make me love taking home engagement photos because I get to see them in a place that means so much to them.

Coming Home

I met Kait and JJ through a referral from a friend. While talking with them, I discovered they love music, and they love spending time at home. They also love collecting curated pieces for their home. Because of that, we decided to do home engagement photos for their session.

Creating in a space that’s so meaningful to someone can make you feel like both an intruder and a guest though. But Kait and JJ were very welcoming to me. They brought me into their home and made me feel like I was at home. That made it a lot easier for me to take their home engagement photos there with them. 

Their Home Engagement Photos

Kait and JJ’s home was an art piece. Treating it that way made their home engagement photos come out the same way too. We took our time, getting lots of shots in their living room, kitchen, bedroom, backyard, front yard, and more. Everywhere had something new and expressive about them for their home engagement photos. 

Their walls of amps spoke to their love of music. Their refrigerator and tiling spoke to their love of vintage things. The plant decorations around their home spoke to their love of life, and their other decorations spoke to their love of art.

Their front yard was an intentional mix of latticework and bent, reaching plant growth. Their chickens made an appearance in the backyard, and their dog made an appearance in the kitchen. We even took some shots in, on, and around their car. 

Their bedroom was cozy, their couch was comfy, and I couldn’t get enough of any of it. I love that every single place had something to say about those two, and I love that I got to capture it all and give it back to them.

Leaving Home

Getting to do home engagement photos is always a special treat for me. I love working in the spaces that mean the most to someone or, when I pick the space, the ones I think will mean the most to someone.
