Documentation
Valid Passports
Ensure both passports are valid for at least six months beyond your planned stay.
Birth Certificates

Affidavit (Atto Notorio)
Sworn before a U.S. Consul in Italy or a notary public in your home country, stating that there's no legal obstacle to your marriage. Sadly, LGBTQIA+ marriages are illegal in Italy so I always suggest my queer couples tie the knot legally in the U.S. and celebrate in the Dolomites!
Nulla Osta
Certificate of No Impediment, confirming you're free to marry. This is usually obtained from your home country's embassy in Italy.
Translator
If your documents are not in Italian, you'll need them translated and certified.
Witnesses
Italian law requires two witnesses for a civil ceremony.
Filing of Banns
Some regions require the public posting of marriage banns; check local requirements.
