Motherhood in the Fields: A Floral Family Photo Session
I had shot Aly’s maternity photoshoot when baby Finley was still inside momma, so I was so excited when Aly reached out for family photos. When I mentioned to her this pastel idea with the baby’s breath she was so on board, and I knew Stephanie at Flower Disco was the perfect girl to make it happen. This floral family photo session was born.
Having babies of my own has made me appreciate capturing motherhood so much more. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to incorporate breastfeeding into this family photo session. It’s a fleeting stage for us moms but while it lasts it is such a huge part of family life, so celebrating it felt powerful. It gave us some of my favorite shots from the whole photo session.
Playing with Color in a Family Photo Session
Aly and Jason were amazing to work with because they are down to do whatever. They had initially connected with me on Instagram, and they told me they really like how I work with floral elements and they knew they wanted that for their family photo shoot. We worked on a lineup of outfits in pastel shades to match the baby’s breath: one set where each of them - Aly, Jason, and babygirl Fin - were in a different color, so that they looked like a bouquet all together, and another where Fin and Aly were in the same shade of blue.
In the past I’ve been the first to say no to a family photo session - but looking at these photos is making me feel like I should offer it more. If you’re enjoying the floral work in these photos, take a look at this couples session I did against a wall of hay (trust me on this.) And, of course, there is more inspiration lurking in the pages of my blog. Check it out.
